IAS Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the Civil Services examination, candidates must be graduates or above. Candidates who are about to appear for their final graduation exams are also eligible to appear for this examination. The maximum number of attempts permitted is six for open category candidates, and nine for OBC candidates. There is no limit on the number of attempts for SC, ST candidates. The minimum age limit for candidates is 21 years and the maximum age limit is 32 years. The upper age limit is further relaxed by 5 years and 3 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST and OBC categories respectively.

IAS Syllabus

The CSAT aptitude test or Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) examination will be a qualifying paper only with a minimum of 33% to be secured to sit for the Civil Services (Mains) exam. The questions in both Paper-I (GS) and Paper-II (CSAT) will be of multiple choice, objective type for 200 marks each and the time allotted for each paper is two hours. It is mandatory for the candidate to appear in both the papers of Civil Services (Prelim) examination for the purpose of evaluation. Therefore a candidate will be disqualified in case he or she does not appear in both the papers of the (Prelims) exam.

IAS Selection Process

The two stages of the examination consist of the preliminary round, followed by the mains (written and interview). The Preliminary Examination is an objective type Examination. It consists of two papers, both of which are worth two hundred marks each. Each paper is of two hour duration. The Main Examination is a written exam and candidates can write it in either English or any other Indian language included in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. The UPSC Civil Services Exam is conducted in two stages Prelims and Mains which are then followed by an interview. Scheme and subjects for the Preliminary and Main Examinations is as follows: Latest Pattern of Civil Services (Mains) Examination. Structure of Civil Service Exam

The Indian Administrative Service is the premier administrative civil service of the Government of India. Hierarchy-wise, IAS is the highest administrative post among the 24 services like IPS, IFS etc. IAS is the permanent bureaucracy in India and forms a part of the executive branch.
