Information on SVF (Simple Vector Format)
The Simple Vector Format, or SVF, is a vector graphics format which supports
hyperlinks and layer information. It was jointly developed by SoftSource and
NCSA to provide a useful 2-D vector format for use on the World Wide Web.
The specification is freely available for anyone to use. (Note: Copies of
any of the specification of SVF must retain the SoftSource copyright notice.)
Viewer
To view SVF images, you can use our SVF Plug-In
for Netscape. This plug-in allows you to embed SVF images in HTML documents and
view stand-alone SVF files through Netscape. If you have a browser which supports
SVF or the Netscape plug-in, you can look at our SVF test
page to try out some of the features of SVF.
Converters
If you are interested in creating vector files, we currently have an
HPGL (Hewlett-Packard Graphics Language - for plotters) to SVF converter.
It is available as a
DOS program, a
Sun program, or as
source code.
Virtual Drafter, our CAD package which directly
reads and writes AutoCAD drawing and DXF files, will also provide an SVF translator
which will include the ability to add hyperlinks and use existing layer information.
SVF Logo
Applications which support SVF for output, input, or display can display the SVF logo.
