On a Macintosh Desktop Patterns is an application. On my system it is a 276 K program. Suggested memory size is 150 K. To customize your desktop I recommend first changing the memory allocation. Go to the Control Panels folder -- in the System Folder. Click once on the Desktop Patterns icon. In the File menu select Get Info. The Desktop Patterns Info window will open. I recommend changing the preferred size to 600 K. Then close the window. Copy an image file onto your clipboard. Open the Desktop Pattern program. Go to the Edit menu and select Paste. The clipboard image will appear in the Desktop Patterns application image window. To apply the image to your desktop click the 'Select Desktop Pattern' bar. The new image will replace your existing desktop pattern. Newly pasted images will remain available along with the preexisting image inventory unless you cut them. Choosing the Edit Cut command deletes the image in the Desktop Patterns image window from the program. If you know you will never use the plaids, bears or rubber bands you can also cut these images from the program. There are limitations on the size of files that will paste in. Also the files may resize if they are not already the correct size or appropriately proportioned. If you are creating your own files I recommend using 288 x 288, 288 x 144, 144 x 144, 72 x 144, 144 x 72 or 72 x 72 pixel files. |
